The glossary.

Definitions beside the subjects they explain.

Adhesive
A skin-contact gripping surface or product with its own application, care and replacement instructions.
Air drying
Drying without a tumble dryer; the garment may specify flat, line or another natural-drying arrangement.
Care label
The garment’s supplied instructions for washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional cleaning.
Colourfastness
How well colour resists transfer or change in a particular treatment. Do not infer it from appearance.
Handwash
A manual wash method permitted for a particular garment; it is not automatically the same as a machine programme of that name.
Moulded cup
A cup formed into a three-dimensional shape that should not be deliberately crushed or reversed for storage.
Professional care
A cleaning treatment performed by an appropriate specialist, according to the garment’s requirements.
Repair
Work that addresses damage; it is separate from washing and may not be suitable for every structural failure.
Snag
Fabric or thread caught and pulled out of its intended position; identify the structure before trimming or pulling.
Trim
An added edge or detail that may affect how the finished garment can be cared for.
