Definitions beside the subjects they explain.

Backless
Clothing with an open back that may not conceal a conventional bra band.
Camisole
A sleeveless upper-body layer, used for coverage or worn visibly according to its design.
Contrast
A visible difference between layers, colours or textures; it can be concealed or used deliberately.
Convertible
A strap system designed to be worn in more than one specified arrangement.
Foundation
A layer chosen to help outer clothing provide the coverage, shape or comfort you want.
Neckline
The shape of the opening around the upper chest and neck; compare both its width and depth.
Opacity
How much a fabric prevents what is beneath it from showing. Test it in the actual garment and lighting.
Slip
A continuous underlayer for a dress or skirt; it may also be styled as visible clothing when designed appropriately.
Tonal
A styling approach using related colours rather than a strong contrast.
Visible line
An outline produced by a seam, edge or other underlayer beneath clothing.
