Fit reference

The glossary.

Definitions beside the subjects they explain.

Asymmetry
A difference between two sides. A fitting can accommodate different needs without requiring an identical appearance.
Band fit
How the bra’s band sits and stabilizes the garment around the torso.
Centre gore
The part joining the cups in many bras; also called a centre panel or bridge.
Containment
How the garment encloses the breast in the areas it is designed to cover.
Cup capacity
The amount of space available in the cup; shape and coverage remain separate considerations.
Fitting note
A dated record of brand, model, label, measuring method and what happened when wearing the garment.
Projection
In fitting discussion, how far the breast extends forward relative to its base. It is descriptive, not a diagnosis.
Sister size
A nearby band-and-cup combination used to compare approximately similar cup volume with a different band size.
Torso length
A length relationship important to one-pieces; use the manufacturer’s measurement method rather than assuming one universal route.
Underbust
The circumference directly beneath the bust, measured according to the fitting method being used.
